BAJA UTV PACKING LIST
What NOT to bring:
- Firearms, Bullets, Knives (Double-check your luggage, even a pocket knife will cause trouble)
- Any drugs or drug paraphernalia are illegal in Mexico
- Any prescription drugs need to be in the original container with your name on it
For UTV drivers/passengers, pack all personal items into the provided 80L+ waterproof duffel bag, which will be loaded into your UTV. Ensure your ground pad and sleeping bag fit inside or have a separate waterproof bag for them.
Your luggage and any items you don’t wish to bring on the trail with you (IE: clean clothes for flights home), can be securely stored at staging and will be waiting for you at the end of the trip.
Very important items:
- Valid passport
- Photocopy of passport
- Valid drivers license
- Photocopy of drivers license
- FMM visa (application link) use Horsepower Ranch Km 9 Carretera, Ensenada-San Felipe, Comunidad San Joaquin, 22842 Ensenada, B.C., Mexico as the address. Entrance Point: Tecate
- US cash for bar tabs, souvenirs, etc. $100/day should be fine (No ATMs)
Sleeping Stuff
- Backpacking size sleeping bag rated at 0-15°F (available to purchase)
*Do not bring a giant Coleman kids sleepover style sleeping bag, you will be mocked and cold if you do.
*Sleeping bag liners can boost your bag rating by 10-15º affordably - Backpacking size ground pad (available to purchase)
Clothing
- Closed toe footwear for UTV drivers (hiking boots, trail shoes, sneakers)
- 1+ pair of pants (any type of durable pant will do)
- 2-3+ moisture wicking t-shirts
- 2-3+ pairs of riding/hiking socks (not too thick unless it’s a late fall trip)
- Warmer long sleeve top/layer
- Lightweight insulated jacket
- Waterproof shell jacket
- Swim attire (will not need on Grand Canyon route)
- Lightweight, packable footwear for camp. This can be sandals, crocs, tennis shoes, etc.
Accessories & Gear
- UTV Goggles (available to purchase)
- Dust Mask (available to purchase)
- Headlamp (available to purchase)
- Driving Gloves (available to purchase)
- Neck Gaiter/Buff for sun, cold
- Sunglasses
- Minimal personal toiletries: toothbrush, etc.
- 1L water bottle (should fit in cup-holder)
- Sunscreen
- Backpacking Size Towel
- Eye Drops
- Valid driver’s license
- Cash for guide gratuity (your lead guide will also have venmo) *optional but appreciated 🙂
*Additional items for March-May and October-December trips
- Mid to heavy-weight thermal underwear top and bottom
- Lightweight insulated gloves for riding/around camp
- Warmer 650 to 800-fill power down/synthetic jacket
- Hand/Foot/Body warmers
